WEBTOON Announces Major Creator Program Overhaul Targeting 2026 Rollout

WEBTOON confirmed a significant overhaul of its Creator Programs, set to begin rolling out across 2026. The platform is introducing fresh tools aimed squarely at boosting creator careers and building sustainable pathways, a move that signals its intent to solidify its position as the premier destination for global comic careers. Given that popular anime titles like Chainsaw Man originated on the platform, these structural changes could directly influence the next wave of successful adaptations.
The immediate focus is on CANVAS users. They can expect enhanced monetization options and a new performance dashboard offering clearer series statistics. Full details on these specific features are not expected until early next year.
The platform is also increasing its physical presence at major U.S. conventions, promising more creator spots. Furthermore, WEBTOON is expanding on-site support to new regions, including Europe and Southeast Asia for the first time, facilitating meet-ups and portfolio reviews to connect artists directly with industry professionals and fans.
Kicking off the new initiatives in Q1 2026 is the Creator Residency program. This involves two-week workshops held twice annually at WEBTOON’s Los Angeles headquarters, hosting up to nine English-language Originals creators per session. Participants will engage in intensive story sessions, receive editor feedback, and attend team meetings. Applications for the inaugural residency round opened on December 18.

New creators will receive direct support through digital open houses hosted by the Creator Care and Editorial teams. A revamped Creator Resource Hub is launching concurrently, featuring videos on best practices and career advice sourced directly from established working creators.
Chief Strategy Officer Yongsoo Kim emphasized that creators remain the platform's foundation. He stated the goal is building "sustainable pathways with more earning options, audience connections, and community," according to The Beat. This push comes following criticism directed at the previous Creator Rewards Program.
