Studio Ghibli's acclaimed epic, Princess Mononoke, will debut in North American IMAX theaters for the first time on March 26, 2025. This special release features a dedicated 4K restoration, personally overseen by Ghibli's own Atsushi Okui.
Okui, a veteran involved with nearly every major Ghibli project since 1993, supervised the technical work. His involvement ensures the hand-drawn animation translates perfectly to the massive IMAX format. This marks only the second Ghibli film to receive this special IMAX treatment, following The Boy and the Heron.
For those unfamiliar with the story, Princess Mononoke follows the warrior Ashitaka. Afflicted by a deadly curse, he journeys west seeking a cure. His path throws him into the brutal conflict between Lady Eboshi’s Iron Town settlers and the ancient spirits of the forest, defended fiercely by the wolf-raised girl known as Princess Mononoke.

Screenings will offer both the original Japanese audio with English subtitles and an English dubbed version. The dub features a notable cast including Gillian Anderson, Billy Crudup, Claire Danes, and Billy Bob Thornton.
Hayao Miyazaki co-wrote and directed the film, with Toshio Suzuki producing. Joe Hisaishi composed the score. This IMAX event coincides with Studio Ghibli's ongoing 40th-anniversary celebrations.
