The Neon Genesis Evangelion franchise is getting a new anime series. Studio Khara and CloverWorks announced the project on the final day of the 30th anniversary festival at Yokohama Arena, revealing a brief, cryptic teaser trailer.
A high-profile creative team has been confirmed for the new series. Yoko Taro, known for his work on Nier: Automata, is handling scripting duties. Directing responsibilities will be shared by Kazuya Tsurumaki, who previously worked on the Rebuild films, and Toru Yatabe, whose recent credits include Chainsaw Man and Weathering With You. Keiichi Okabe is set to compose the music, bringing experience from NieR and various Tekken soundtracks.

Official details on the plot or a release window remain scarce at the time of reporting, with the announcement focusing on the core creative lineup. This development follows franchise creator Hideaki Anno's tease of a separate 13-minute short, Evangelion Hōsō 30 Shūnen Kinen Tokubetsu Kōgyō, which is slated for a screening in February 2026. Anno is planning that short, with Naoyuki Asano directing.
The three-day anniversary event concluded today, featuring exhibits, merchandise, and the debut of a kabuki adaptation. Fifteen key voice actors, including Megumi Ogata and Megumi Hayashibara, reunited on stage. Fans are debating whether this new series will continue the narrative threads from the Rebuild films, which wrapped up in 2021 with Evangelion 3.0+1.0 Thrice Upon a Time earning over 10 billion yen at the box office, or if it will chart an entirely new course.
