Kodansha and developer Zxima confirmed the PC release date for their upcoming game, MOCHI-O, revealing it will launch on Steam on January 19. A new trailer accompanied the announcement, giving fans a detailed look at the title's unique blend of adorable visuals and heavy defense action in what they call a "doomsday land defense adventure."
Players take control of a small, hamster-like living weapon tasked with defending a crumbling nation at the end of the world. Despite the setting, the trailer emphasizes a "gentle doomsday" vibe, contrasting the cute star with intense barrages of enemy ships and flashy combat effects.
MOCHI-O mixes tower defense style battles with a nurturing system. Between fights, players care for the main character by feeding it seeds, petting it, and decorating its room to build up their bond. This relationship directly unlocks new weapons, abilities, and stat upgrades, including improved firing rate, critical chance, range, and cooldown reduction. Seeds gathered from defeated enemies are used to level up and customize the character.

Zxima positions the project as a comedic, lighthearted take on the apocalypse, showcasing warm character dialogue alongside massive destruction in the preview. The studio previously developed titles focused on quirky end-of-the-world concepts, such as Parasite Days, Post-apocalypse Bakery, and Catastrophe Restaurant, the latter of which won a Top 3 award at the Google Play Indie Games Festival in 2022.
The PC version is set to arrive first on January 19. Mobile releases for iOS and Android are still planned for a later, unannounced date.
