Beloved Romantic Comedy The Café Terrace and Its Goddesses Concludes Serialization After 4.5-Year Run

The popular seaside romantic comedy manga, The Café Terrace and Its Goddesses (Megami no Kafe Terasu), is scheduled to conclude its serialization this November. Written and illustrated by the highly regarded romantic comedy veteran Kouji Seo, the series will wrap up its run after captivating readers for over four and a half years.
The manga first debuted in Kodansha’s Weekly Shōnen Magazine in February 2021. The final emotional arcs will be resolved in the climactic 218th chapter. For collectors, the physical release will culminate in the 21st tankōbon volume, which is currently slated for publication in late 2025.
The narrative centers on Hayato Kasukabe, a diligent student preparing for the University of Tokyo. His life trajectory shifts dramatically following the passing of his grandmother. Upon returning to the quiet coastal town of Miura with the intention of selling her aging café, he encounters five distinct young women. Each woman claims a deep, personal connection to his late grandmother.
This unexpected meeting leads Hayato to make a pivotal decision: rather than liquidating the property, he chooses to revitalize the establishment as Café Familia, opting to live and work alongside the five girls. This premise became the foundation for the series' success, delivering a signature blend of romantic tension, situational comedy, and the profound theme of forming a found family, a hallmark of Seo’s adept storytelling.
The Café Terrace and Its Goddesses has been recognized within the slice-of-life genre for its commitment to genuine character development and its ability to capture the breezy, endearing atmosphere of rural Japan. Its critical and commercial success was significantly amplified by two high-profile anime adaptations produced by Tezuka Productions.

The highly anticipated second season of the anime aired during the Summer 2024 broadcast season, expanding the reach of Café Familia far beyond its original print format. While the conclusion of the manga brings formal closure to this memorable journey, the legacy of Hayato and his five companions is secured, living on through both the collected volumes and the animated series. The industry now awaits the announcement of Kouji Seo’s next project in romantic storytelling.
