End of an Era: Comic Valkyrie Digital Manga Magazine Announces Closure After Nearly Two Decades

A significant chapter in the history of seinen manga is drawing to a close, as Kill Time Communication confirms that its venerable digital magazine, Comic Valkyrie, will conclude its regular run. The platform, renowned for its specialization in dynamic bishōjo battle manga, is scheduled to publish its 150th and final regular issue in December 2025.
Since its inception in July 2006, Comic Valkyrie carved out a powerful niche, dedicated exclusively to featuring narratives centered on formidable fighting heroines. It successfully blended intense action, sophisticated science fiction elements, and deep fantasy lore, catering specifically to a dedicated adult male audience. Though the magazine initially debuted in print, it demonstrated adaptability by fully transitioning to a free, digital-only format in 2012, maintaining its commitment to high-quality action content.
Kill Time Communication cited evolving market conditions and profound shifts in how users consume media as the driving forces behind the decision to discontinue the publication.
The legacy of Comic Valkyrie is cemented by the many strong girl-led action series it launched and popularized, which were subsequently compiled into collected volumes under the Valkyrie Comics imprint. Perhaps its most internationally recognized contribution is the highly successful manga Freezing, penned by Dall-Young Lim and illustrated by Kwang-Hyun Kim, a series so popular it received an anime adaptation in 2011.

While the magazine itself is retiring after nearly two decades, the publisher has assured fans that continuity will be maintained. All manga series currently serialized within Comic Valkyrie will find a new home on Kill Time Communication’s manga website, KimiComi, where chapter releases will continue uninterrupted online. This move ensures that while the iconic platform disappears, the stories and characters beloved by its fanbase will live on, marking the end of an era while simultaneously promising a future for these compelling narratives.
