Florida Film Critics Circle Names '100 Meters' Runner-Up for Best Animated Film

The Florida Film Critics Circle Awards concluded Friday, confirming that the anime feature 100 Meters secured the runner-up position for Best Animated Film. The top prize in the category was awarded to Little Amélie or the Character of Rain.
Director Kenji Iwaisawa helmed 100 Meters, which adapts Uoto's manga, Hyakuemu. The narrative focuses on the intense rivalry between two runners: Togashi, voiced by Tori Matsuzaka, a naturally gifted athlete, and Komiya, played by Shōta Sometani, an underdog dedicated solely to the 100-meter dash. Their competitive dynamic originated in elementary school when Togashi mentored Komiya as a transfer student.
The film opened in Japanese theaters on September 19, where it earned 102,666,040 yen, approximately $694,700, landing at number eight on the opening weekend charts.

Before its domestic run, 100 Meters made its world premiere at the Annecy festival in June, following a preview presentation in the Work in Progress section the previous year. US audiences saw the feature via GKIDS screenings between October 10th and 14th, which included both the original Japanese audio with English subtitles and a dubbed version. Director Iwaisawa also attended the East Coast debut at the Japan Society in New York on October 8th.
Official Hige Dandism performed the theme song, "Rashisa." Netflix is set to release the film globally on December 31st. The streaming version will feature the original Japanese audio track and English subtitles. This latest recognition from the FFCC places 100 Meters alongside other recognized features like Arco, KPop Demon Hunters, and Zootopia 2.
