Madhouse and Morio Asaka Ignite Anticipation: 'Awajima Hyakkei' Anime Reveals Main Cast, First Promo, and Spring 2026 Premiere

The highly anticipated anime adaptation of Takako Shimura's acclaimed manga, 'Awajima Hyakkei,' has officially revealed its principal cast and released its inaugural promotional video. This development generates excitement ahead of its scheduled April 2026 premiere. Fans are now receiving their first look into the world of this nuanced school drama, brought to life by a notable production team.
Niina Nakabayashi will voice Wakana Tabata, and You Taichi will voice Kinue Takehara, portraying the two central protagonists. The series will be directed by Morio Asaka, known for his work on 'Chihayafuru' and 'Cardcaptor Sakura.' Animation production is handled by Madhouse, ensuring a visually detailed and emotionally rich adaptation.
Further strengthening the creative team, Yasuhiro Nakanishi, recognized for his series compositions in 'Kaguya-sama: Love is War' and 'Jibaku Shounen Hanako-kun,' is responsible for the storytelling structure. Character designs, essential for translating Shimura's distinct art style, are managed by Kunihiko Hamada, whose credits include 'Yamada-kun to Lv999 no Koi wo Suru.' Takahiro Obata, known for his scores in 'Yakusoku no Neverland' and the 'Shoushimin Series,' will compose the musical score for 'Awajima Hyakkei,' aiming for an immersive auditory experience.

Takako Shimura's original manga, which explores school life and relationships, began serialization on the pocopoco website in 2011. It later moved to the Oota Web Comic platform in 2016. The series concluded on March 15, 2024, with its fifth and final volume published by Oota Publishing in May 2024. This anime adaptation aims to faithfully capture the manga's intimate and emotionally resonant narrative, extending its reach to a global audience.
With the release of the promotional video providing a preview of the anime's visual style and thematic depth, anticipation is increasing.
