Major Expansion for The Apothecary Diaries: Season 3 and Brand-New Movie Slated for 2026-2027

TOHO Animation has announced a significant expansion for the series The Apothecary Diaries, confirming both a third anime season and an original feature film. This dual announcement promises a continuation of Maomao's journey within the imperial court, with releases scheduled throughout 2026 and 2027.
The third season of The Apothecary Diaries will be broadcast in two distinct cours. The first cour is slated for October 2026, followed by the second cour in April 2027. Additionally, an all-new anime movie is scheduled to premiere in December 2026. This cinematic production will feature an entirely original narrative, developed by Natsu Hyūga, the author of the light novel series.
The Apothecary Diaries has gained a substantial following due to its blend of historical drama and intricate mystery. The series centers on the apothecary Maomao as she navigates the complexities and dangers of an ancient imperial palace. The first season premiered in October 2023 across two cours, and the second season aired from January to July 2025. Both seasons have been made available globally through Crunchyroll, including comprehensive English dubbing.

To mark its second anniversary and acknowledge its growing international fanbase, TOHO Animation has released a special commemorative trailer with multilingual subtitles. Furthermore, a traveling exhibition is planned to tour across Asia, starting in Hong Kong and proceeding through major cities in mainland China, Taipei, Bangkok, and Kuala Lumpur. This initiative from the studio highlights the popularity of The Apothecary Diaries and its commitment to adapting Natsu Hyūga's storytelling.
