The Ichirin Dance Club's initial competition win is already fading into the rearview mirror. Mangaka Coffee immediately threw the crew into high-stakes competition, confirming a major Dance Battle across Wandance Volumes 4 and 5. The focus shifts quickly to the demanding world of Japanese hip-hop dance as the pressure mounts on the first-years.
For Kaboku, the shy first-year dealing with a stutter, the stakes are deeply personal. Following a strong showing by On-chan, Kaboku is questioning his own choreography skills and is seriously considering entering the solo division at the inter-high contest. This represents a significant hurdle for his character arc.
Meanwhile, Kabo and Wanda are pushing their limits in training. The competitive environment is taking a toll, specifically on Kabo, who appears to be nearing burnout as she trains relentlessly to keep pace with Wanda.
Coffee's artwork remains a major highlight of the series. The extended dance sequences in these volumes capture the raw energy and flow of street dance, easily holding up against other major dance titles. Volume 5 specifically ramps up the emotional tension, and integrated music suggestions keep the rhythm moving.

While the intense focus on dance means character development outside the studio takes a slight hit in Volume 4, a preview confirms a developing romance subplot. Kabo's feelings for Wanda are teased, suggesting the personal connections are set to deepen.
The anime adaptation, which aired on Crunchyroll in Fall 2025, has already drawn criticism. Manga purists feel the CGI dance scenes do not match the dynamic quality of Coffee’s original pages.
