After Seven-Year Hiatus, Uru Okabe Revives 'Yajin' Manga to Conclude 'Part One' and Apologize to Fans

Manga enthusiasts are celebrating a significant development as creator Uru Okabe has released the 25th chapter of Yajin (Night Person). This release marks the end of an extended seven-year publishing hiatus for the supernatural mystery series, which had been on hold since December 2018. The new installment was made available through Shogakukan's Manga ONE app.
This pivotal chapter officially concludes the manga's 'first part.' In an accompanying note, Okabe provided insight into the complex release, explaining that the narrative originally planned for two chapters was condensed into a single, focused conclusion. Addressing the substantial delay and the nature of the finale, Okabe offered a sincere apology to the dedicated readership.
While acknowledging that the ending might potentially leave some readers with a “bad aftertaste,” the author emphasized that this concluding segment remained faithful to the storyboard developed in 2018, ensuring the integrity of the original narrative despite the long interruption.

Yajin immerses readers in the lives of two middle school friends who mysteriously acquire the nocturnal ability to transform into 'Yajin' or 'Night People.' This transformation grants them extraordinary powers, including flight, the ability to phase through solid structures, and interaction with the spirit world. Their journey is further entwined with Iko, a girl who shares their rare gift of spiritual sight.
The future of the series remains hopeful, though tentative. Okabe expressed a strong personal desire to continue the captivating story in a 'Part Two,' but cautioned fans regarding existing commercial obstacles that currently prevent a guaranteed continuation.
This creative resurgence follows a period of significant personal and professional milestones for Okabe. The author credited the unwavering support of the fanbase and the international success of the Good Night World anime adaptation for providing the necessary momentum. The adaptation premiered globally on Netflix in October 2024. This support helped Okabe overcome difficult years, including previous health setbacks such as a cerebral infarction. Okabe recently completed the Good Night World End prequel manga in May 2024.
Furthermore, the release of this new chapter of Yajin coincides with the imminent announcement of a third manga volume. This volume promises to collect previously unpublished chapters and officially solidifies Okabe's return to the forefront of the manga scene, demonstrating dedication and perseverance.
