The original Pokémon Cafe in Tokyo’s Nihonbashi district is temporarily closing its doors for extensive renovations. The Pokémon Company confirmed the news on February 9th via official social media channels, announcing the location will shut down starting March 23, 2026. The closure is currently projected to last through late June 2026.
This Nihonbashi spot, situated on the fifth floor of the Takashimaya S.C. East Building, holds historical significance for the franchise. It first opened in 2018 as the world's first permanent Pokémon dining establishment, quickly becoming famous for its immersive atmosphere and themed dishes.
Officials have not yet set a firm reopening date, noting that the timeline for internal upgrades is subject to change. Further details regarding any new menu items or features planned for the refreshed cafe will be announced later through the official Pokémon website and social channels.
Fans planning spring 2026 trips should note that reservations are already difficult to secure, and they should book immediately or consider alternative locations.

While the cafe is closed, the attached Pokémon Center Tokyo DX will continue operating without interruption. For those unable to visit Tokyo during the temporary shutdown, both the Pikachu Sweets by Pokémon Cafe in Ikebukuro and the full Pokémon Cafe located in Osaka’s Shinsaibashi district remain open for business.
