The magical academy fantasy genre is set to welcome a highly anticipated addition as the television anime adaptation of Yōsuke Kaneda's beloved manga, The Classroom of a Black Cat and a Witch, confirms its spring debut. Fans can mark their calendars for April 2026, when the series will premiere on the nationwide 28-station CBC and TBS network, occupying the prestigious 11:30 p.m. Sunday slot within the Agaru Anime programming block.

This announcement was coupled with the thrilling release of both the main promotional visual and the primary promotional video, giving audiences a deeper look into the enchanting world of Spica Virgo. The newly revealed visual immediately captures the spirit of the story, centering on the determined witch apprentice, Spica Virgo, alongside her fellow aspirants. This striking image powerfully underscores the central narrative thrust: the unwavering pursuit of becoming first-class magicians, showcasing the bonds of friendship and the growth forged in the face of adversity.

Simultaneously, the main PV offers a comprehensive tour of the series' setting, introducing the uniquely talented student body of Claude Cavern. The footage masterfully blends snippets of intense magical confrontation with the lighthearted, charming slice-of-life comedy that has made the manga a hit, all while highlighting Spica’s heartfelt aspirations and the daunting challenges ahead. Adding an extra layer of excitement, musical artist ASCA will perform the anime’s opening theme song, Cusp.

LIDENFILMS is handling the animation production, guided by Director Naoyuki Tatsuwa, with Midori Goto overseeing series composition and Takayuki Onoda designing the characters. The production team has also significantly expanded the ensemble cast. While Kaede Hondo (Spica Virgo) and Nobunaga Shimazaki (Claude Sirius) lead the charge, twelve new members have joined, including Shoya Ishige as Tarf Cancer, Ai Fairouz as Leo Regulus, Tomohiro Ono as Astraea Libra, Miho Wataya as Hana Sasorijo, Kazuki Ura as Chiron Sagittarius Aradia, and Miyuki Sakurai as Capella Capricorn.

Manga Background and Core Premise

Serialized on Kodansha’s Magazine Pocket since March 2022, the original story centers on Spica Virgo, a skilled but magic-less witch apprentice struggling to enter her dream academy due to a lack of money and connections. Her luck changes dramatically with the appearance of a mysterious black cat, one who can speak human language and wield powerful magic. Driven by aligned goals, Spica’s desperate need to learn sorcery and the cat’s wish to break a potent curse, the two forge a secret, symbiotic master-apprentice pact. The anime promises to translate the manga’s unique combination of action, comedy, and genuine emotional character dynamics seamlessly to the screen.
