Kei Sazane has confirmed that his popular light novel series, Our Last Crusade or the Rise of a New World, is officially entering its final battle arc. The author made the announcement on New Year's Day via X, signaling that the long-running conflict between the Empire and the Nebulis Sovereignty is approaching its conclusion for readers.
The confirmation was accompanied by a new illustration from series artist Ao Nekonabe. The main series launched in May 2017 under Kadokawa's Fujimi Fantasia Bunko imprint and has reached sixteen volumes in Japan. Yen Press handles the English localization of the novels.
The story follows Iska, the Empire’s top young knight, and Aliceliese, the witch princess of the Nebulis Sovereignty. Their mandated roles as enemies in a war between imperial technology and magical forces eventually develop into mutual respect and something more.
Sazane also noted that the manga adaptation of his separate work, Sekai no Owari no Encore, illustrated by Haruaki Fuyuno, is moving into its final arc as well.

The anime adaptation has had a complex production run. Season one aired in 2020. Season two premiered in July 2024 but was paused after episode four in August 2024 for quality adjustments. Season two is now set to restart from episode one on April 10, 2025, aiming for a 12-episode total run. Crunchyroll carries the series internationally, including an English dub. The Okama manga adaptation, which has run in Young Animal since 2018, is concluding at seven volumes, supplemented by three volumes of the Secret File light novel spinoff.
