Netflix and MAPPA have formalized an expanded strategic partnership to co-develop and exclusively stream a new wave of original anime titles globally. This deal confirms that all future co-developed series will debut simultaneously on Netflix across every region, including the home market of Japan.
The partnership covers the entire production pipeline, ranging from initial story creation through to merchandise development. MAPPA, the powerhouse studio known for hits like Jujutsu Kaisen and Chainsaw Man, will maintain its operational independence while utilizing Netflix's massive international distribution network.
MAPPA CEO Manabu Otsuka stated the move is necessary for Japanese studios to control projects from the initial concept through global rollout. Netflix VP of Japan content, Kaata Sakamoto, specifically highlighted MAPPA's distinctive and bold production style.
Sakamoto believes combining MAPPA's animation expertise with the platform's reach will foster genuinely fresh anime content. This collaboration expands on previous joint efforts, which included Netflix handling international distribution for titles such as Ranma 1/2 and Kakegurui Twin.

Anime remains a significant driver for Netflix engagement; the platform confirmed that over half of its subscribers watch anime, with viewership tripling over the last five years. Anime accounted for more than 4% of all viewing hours on the service during the second half of 2025 alone.
Several new projects are already underway in both the planning and active production stages. The stated goal of the expanded partnership is to fund original works designed to push the boundaries of visual storytelling. Last year, anime content on Netflix surpassed one billion views, placing Japanese productions second globally behind English-language titles.
