Studio ENGI confirmed major plans for the Medalist anime franchise, revealing a new key visual for the upcoming second season and, significantly, announcing a full theatrical film slated for 2027.
The new visual, dropped during a special Saturday screening, focuses on the main pair, Inori Yuitsuka and Tsukasa Akeuraji, alongside rivals Hikaru Kamisaki and Jun Yodaka. They are shown facing off on a frozen lake, setting the stage for the intense Chubu Block Tournament where competitors vie for spots in the All Japan Novice Championships.
Fans can expect the television return soon. Season 2 is set to premiere on January 24, airing across TV Asahi’s NUMAnimation block and associated stations, including CS TV Asahi Channel 1 and BS Asahi. The season opener is titled "Athlete's Oath."
Kadokawa confirmed the theatrical film will follow the conclusion of Season 2, continuing Inori and Tsukasa’s story on the big screen in 2027.
While the core production staff returns, some shifts were confirmed for the second season. Hazuki Nakamura, previously the 3DCG environment supervisor, is now taking on art direction, and Kentaro Kashiwagi handles compositing. The new season introduces new cast members, with Natsuko Abe, Mao Itou, and Maria Naganawa joining the cast in fresh roles.

Girl group HANA provides the opening theme, "Cold Night," and Conton Candy performs the ending track, "Rookies."
The anime push coincides with the continued success of Tsurumaikada’s original manga, which runs in Kodansha's Monthly Afternoon since 2020. The manga secured the Next Manga Award in 2020 and the 48th Kodansha Manga Award in 2024. Volume 14 of the manga hits shelves in Japan on January 22, two days before the anime debut. To mark the premiere, the Animate Ikebukuro Main Store will distribute special hand warmers featuring the new visual on January 24.
