Kyoto Animation has officially announced a television anime adaptation for Masaoki Shindō’s RuriDragon, confirming the studio’s first-ever adaptation of a Shonen Jump manga. The news was revealed on December 28th through a special “Thank you” video released to celebrate the protagonist Ruri Aoki’s birthday.
This collaboration is significant, pairing the studio known for hits like Nichijou and Violet Evergarden with a title from Shueisha. While the announcement confirms the project is moving forward, the teaser video explicitly stated that a broadcast is "still a long way off," indicating that production is in its early stages and a release window remains undefined at the time of reporting.
The story centers on Ruri Aoki, a high school student navigating the complications of being half-dragon, a lineage inherited from her actual dragon father. Her daily life is already awkward before she has to manage sudden bursts of draconic heat during school hours.
Given the manga’s focus on character comedy and low-stakes supernatural situations rather than heavy action, RuriDragon appears well-suited for Kyoto Animation’s established strengths in delivering warm, character-driven humor.

Masaoki Shindō’s manga first appeared in Weekly Shonen Jump back in June 2022. The series has faced several hiatuses since its debut due to the author’s health issues.
Viz Media currently handles the English release through the Shonen Jump app. Three volumes are available digitally, and the fourth volume is scheduled for release in November 2025.
