Highly Anticipated Wine Manga 'Kami no Shizuku' (The Drops of God) Secures 2026 TV Anime Adaptation

The acclaimed world of fine wine and high-stakes rivalry, as depicted in the legendary manga series Kami no Shizuku (known internationally as The Drops of God), is finally uncorking its first-ever television anime adaptation in 2026. Penned by Tadashi Agi and meticulously illustrated by Shu Okimoto, this beloved, wine-themed narrative, which began captivating global audiences upon its 2004 serialization in Kodansha's Morning magazine, will debut on Japanese television screens via Tokyo MX, Kansai TV, and BS NTV. Pony Canyon, which made the landmark announcement, confirmed that specifics regarding international streaming access will be disclosed at a later date, ramping up global anticipation.
Leading the charge on this monumental project is Director Kenji Itoso, known for his work on titles such as Aquarion: Myth of Emotions. The animation production falls under the purview of Satelight studios, benefiting from cooperation by YANCHESTER. Guiding the narrative structure, Yuu Mitsuru handles series composition and script supervision, while Takehiro Suwa is tasked with bringing the characters to life through design. The score, crucial for setting the sophisticated mood, will be handled by composer Eishi Segawa, recognized for his contributions to Ushio & Tora. The involvement of Pony Canyon as part of the production committee assures fans that this adaptation will uphold the distinguished quality and rich legacy of the source material.
The production boasts a stellar voice cast ready to embody the central figures of this dramatic journey. Former KAT-TUN member Kazuya Kamenashi steps into the role of protagonist Shizuku Kanzaki, while Takuya Satou (Yuukoku no Moriarty) voices his rival, Issei Tomine. Maaya Uchida (Kinsou no Vermeil) will portray Miyabi Shinohara, and veteran voice actor Banjou Ginga (Solo Leveling) completes the core group as Yutaka Kanzaki. Initial teaser visuals and trailers have already been released, successfully generating significant buzz among long-time manga aficionados and those new to the saga.

Kami no Shizuku's influence transcends animation; it has previously inspired two successful live-action adaptations, including a Japanese series in 2009 and a highly successful multilingual international production launched in 2023, the latter of which sees its second season hitting Apple TV+ in January 2026. The manga itself is a global phenomenon, boasting official translations across several major languages, including English, Chinese, French, and Portuguese. Furthermore, Kodansha USA has made all 44 volumes accessible digitally and is preparing to launch a physical omnibus print edition, with the inaugural volume scheduled for release on November 18, 2025. This forthcoming anime promises to skillfully merge elements of mystery, self-discovery, and poignant human drama, introducing the complex and thrilling world of oenology to a new generation of viewers.
