Gachiakuta Creator Kei Urana Limits Art Posts to Instagram Following X's Controversial Image Editing Update

Kei Urana, the creator behind the hit manga Gachiakuta, announced on December 26 JST that she is moving her primary artwork posts from X to Instagram. This decision stems directly from issues with X’s new ‘Edit Image’ feature, which Urana called too cumbersome for her workflow.
This platform shift highlights growing creator frustration with X’s AI-powered tools, following Dr. STONE artist Boichi’s recent decision to cease posting art on the site entirely for the same reason. The 'Edit Image' function allows modification of any uploaded image without an opt-out mechanism, a major concern for artists protecting their work.
Urana’s distinct, graffiti-heavy style is central to Gachiakuta’s appeal in its trash-filled dystopian setting. While fans following her on X expressed concern about missing new sketches, Urana noted she might still make occasional posts, unlike Boichi’s complete departure from art sharing on the platform.
Gachiakuta Franchise Expands
The news of Urana’s platform shift arrives as the Gachiakuta franchise confirms major expansion plans. The production committee officially revealed that a second anime season, a video game adaptation, and a stage play are all currently in development.

The first season premiered this year and proved successful enough to warrant this immediate expansion. Urana had previously adjusted her manga character designs to better accommodate the specific challenges encountered during the animation process.
Urana launched Gachiakuta in collaboration with graffiti designer Hideyoshi Andou, and the series is published by Kodansha. The creators and producer Naoki Amano discussed their creative process last summer at Anime Expo as part of the ongoing global 'Gachiakuta World Takeover' campaign.
