The highly anticipated third installment of the Fullmetal Alchemist stage adaptation has officially revealed its main visual. Titled Ambition of Darkness and Light, this production is set to explore the intense philosophical and physical conflicts central to Hiromu Arakawa's globally recognized manga.

The performance schedule has been confirmed. The show will run in Tokyo from February 7 to February 15, 2026, followed by performances in Osaka scheduled between February 20 and February 22, 2026. This new production directly follows the critically acclaimed debut in 2023 and the subsequent sequel, Fullmetal Alchemist: Each Battlefield, which was staged in June 2024.

The Elric Brothers' Continuing Quest

The narrative centers on the young alchemists, Edward and Alphonse Elric, who are permanently marked by the tragedy of their past transgression: the use of forbidden human transmutation. Their relentless pursuit of the legendary Philosopher’s Stone drives the plot, forcing them to navigate a perilous environment populated by formidable government officials and ruthless, power-hungry adversaries.

Actors Yohei Isshiki and Ryota Hirono will share the complex role of protagonist Edward Elric, aiming to bring unique dynamism to the character for the live audience. The stage play is directed and scripted by Sachiko Ishimaru, who utilizes diverse theatrical talents to translate Arakawa’s intricate, character-driven epic into a compelling live experience.

Legacy of the Franchise

The original Fullmetal Alchemist manga established itself as a cultural benchmark, serialized from 2001 to 2010. It resulted in 27 volumes published by Square Enix’s Monthly Shonen Gangan and was licensed in the West by Viz Media and Yen Press. The enduring popularity of the franchise has led to numerous successful adaptations, including acclaimed anime series produced by Studio BONES, video games, OVAs, and live-action films.

This third stage production continues to honor that rich heritage, offering theatergoers an immersive blend of emotional resonance, high-stakes drama, and thrilling action. It complements the foundational narrative of the manga and anime by highlighting the eternal struggle of the Elric brothers against a world where the power of alchemy remains a double-edged sword.
