The historical romance manga, Hotaru no Yomeiri, known in English as Firefly Wedding, is officially heading to television. The adaptation is set to premiere in October 2026, taking a slot on Fuji TV’s prestigious noitaminA programming block.
David Production has been tapped to handle the animation duties for the project. Takahiro Kamei, who directed the 2022 Urusei Yatsura reboot, will direct the series. Character designs are being handled by Yukiko Aikei, following her work on Words Bubble Up Like Soda Pop.
The announcement arrived with a teaser visual released through the official anime website and social media channels. Oreco Tachibana’s manga first launched in January 2023 across Shogakukan’s MangaONE and Ura Sunday platforms.
The series has moved 3.5 million copies in circulation so far, with Volume 10 hitting shelves on December 19th. For fans following the source material, Tachibana recently confirmed the manga is nearing its conclusion, wrapping up in just four more chapters. The final installment is scheduled for February 2nd.
The core story follows Satoko Kirigaya, a noblewoman attempting to conceal a serious heart condition while navigating marriage proposals. Her situation takes a sharp turn when she attempts to use the assassin Shinpei Goto as a means of survival by proposing to him, only to find he takes the marriage vows with absolute seriousness.

The manga has already garnered significant industry attention, notably taking first place in the 2024 Nationwide Bookstore Employees' Recommended Comics list. It also placed third in AnimeJapan's 2025 'Manga We Want to See Animated' poll and received nominations for both the Kodansha Manga Award and the Shogakukan Manga Award.
