Nintendo has officially added Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance to the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack library. The 2005 GameCube classic is now playable exclusively on Switch systems via the Nintendo GameCube – Nintendo Classics app for active Expansion Pack subscribers.
This entry marked a significant shift for the Fire Emblem franchise. Path of Radiance was the first title to incorporate full 3D graphics, complete voice acting, and fully-voiced cutscenes. Crucially, it introduced Ike, the mercenary protagonist who quickly became one of the series' most recognizable figures and a recurring fighter in Super Smash Bros.
The narrative unfolds on the continent of Tellius, focusing on the deep-seated conflict between the human beorc and the half-human laguz. When outside forces attempt to escalate this tension, Ike and the Greil Mercenaries must fight for survival and freedom. Their primary task involves protecting Princess Elincia from the aggressive Mad King Ashnard and the mysterious Black Knight.
Nintendo initially posted the addition quietly on its official website, but strong fan reaction on social media prompted the company to issue a formal English-language trailer narrated over Ike's story. This announcement also coincided with the game's soundtrack becoming available on Nintendo Music, offering subscribers another way to engage with the classic score.

Path of Radiance first launched in Japan in April 2005 and hit North America that October. It stands as the third Fire Emblem title released in the West, though it is the ninth overall in the series timeline. It remains highly regarded by many fans for its strong storytelling and well-balanced gameplay. Fans wanting to jump into this classic or replay it can access Path of Radiance now through the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack service.
