The Dragon Ball Super anime is officially returning after an eight-year hiatus with a direct sequel series titled Dragon Ball Super: The Galactic Patrol. This major announcement dropped today during the Dragon Ball Genkidamatsuri 2026 event held at Makuhari Messe in Japan.
Goku’s longtime voice actor, Masako Nozawa, appeared alongside producer Akio Iyoku to confirm that production is actively underway for the adaptation of the manga's Galactic Patrol Prisoner Arc, commonly known as the Moro Arc. Iyoku emphasized that adapting this specific comic storyline, which fans have been eager to see animated, represents the peak of the franchise's extensive 40th-anniversary celebration.
This new series will pick up immediately following the conclusion of the Universe Survival Arc from the original 2015-2018 anime run. The plot centers on Goku and Vegeta joining forces with the Galactic Patrol to track down dangerous escaped convicts.
Their primary target is the wizard Moro, who possesses the ability to devour energy and has set his sights on New Namek. A teaser visual released at the event showed the Saiyans sporting new Galactic Patrol uniforms, complete with the organization's logo emblazoned on their battle armor.

Akira Toriyama provided the original story concepts and character designs for the arc before his passing in 2024. Nozawa also shared her enthusiasm about returning to the iconic role of Goku.
While a specific release date remains unannounced, this project serves as the capstone for the franchise's 40th-anniversary celebration. The event also included the unveiling of a separate Dragon Ball Super: Beerus TV remake slated for Fall 2026, alongside several new game announcements. The Genkidamatsuri event itself drew massive attendance, mixing major announcements with special content, including a tribute score performed by Hans Zimmer.
