The original Detective Conan TV anime is receiving a significant accessibility boost with a brand-new English dub focusing on classic early cases. This production, handled by Studio Nano under ADR director Ayu, aims to finally give long-time skeptics an easy entry point into the massive franchise.
The new dub cast was revealed, featuring Molly Zhang taking on the role of Conan Edogawa. Zhang is reportedly bringing a sharper, more contemporary feel to the character while still honoring the iconic Japanese performance. Mauricio Ortiz-Segura handles the dual roles of Shinichi Kudo and Kid the Phantom Thief.
Ortiz-Segura mentioned in an interview that approaching the franchise fresh, knowing it mainly as a legendary marathon series, influenced how he approached inhabiting characters fans have known for decades.
Director Ayu confirmed the release strategy will utilize curated clusters of episodes rather than a straight chronological run. This method is specifically designed to lower the barrier to entry, letting newcomers sample key mystery arcs without committing to the full 1,000-plus episode count immediately, all while respecting the original pacing.

Ayu’s deep familiarity with the source material has been crucial, especially in directing performances for complex scenes where characters must switch identities mid-episode. This guidance is particularly vital for Ortiz-Segura, who needs to maintain clear distinctions between Shinichi and Kid within the same recording session.
With the franchise continuing to see success via recent films like Detective Conan: One-eyed Flashback and the upcoming Highway no Datenshi, this new dub positions the classic TV run as an approachable starting point once again.
