Supernatural Thriller 'Dark Gathering' Greenlit for Second Season, Unveils Haunting Teaser and Kyoto Setting

OLM has officially confirmed the production of a second season for the critically acclaimed supernatural horror anime, Dark Gathering. This announcement is underscored by the release of a new teaser visual. Under the guidance of returning director Hiroshi Ikehata, known for his work on series such as 'Tonikawa: Over The Moon For You,' the upcoming season is confirmed as a comprehensive continuation, not a split-cour extension. This commitment signals the significant domestic and international fan support that has propelled the series.
The narrative will again feature Yayoi Hozuki, a young protagonist with extraordinary spiritual abilities. Her quest to locate her missing mother continues, set against increasingly eerie and dangerous spiritual phenomena. For this new installment, the primary setting will shift to Kyoto, a city known for its history and atmosphere. This change is expected to add new layers of dread and mystique to the storyline, utilizing the city's ancient folklore.

Dark Gathering is based on Kenichi Kondo's manga, which has been serialized in Shueisha's Jump Square since 2019. As of August 2025, the manga has 18 volumes. The manga's lore and terrifying encounters have found a highly regarded adaptation in its anime form. The first season, consisting of 25 episodes, premiered in July 2023. It received widespread praise for its storytelling, plot, and characters. The original voice cast will reprise their roles, ensuring continuity. Yu Sasahara returns as Yayoi Hozuki, Nobunaga Shimazaki as Keitaro Gentoga, Kana Hanazawa as Eiko Hozuki, and Rina Kawaguchi as Ai Kamiyo.
Specific release dates for the second season are pending. Anticipation for the series is notable, driven by its popularity and consistent critical acclaim. This announcement solidifies Dark Gathering's position as a standout title within the contemporary supernatural horror anime genre. The new episodes are expected to expand its universe and explore its lore further.
