Critically Acclaimed Occult Comedy 'Dara-san of Reiwa' Confirmed for 2026 TV Anime Adaptation

Fans of atmospheric supernatural comedy have received confirmation regarding the future of Haruomi Tomotsuka's highly regarded manga, Dara-san of Reiwa. The series is officially being adapted into a television anime, scheduled for release in 2026. This serialization has garnered attention for its compelling combination of occult themes, lighthearted comedy, and unexpected horror elements.

The narrative centers on two young siblings whose lives are profoundly altered following an encounter with the titular Dara-san, a mysterious and initially frightening entity whose complex personality gradually emerges, challenging the children's initial preconceptions.

Manga Origins and Critical Acclaim

The series began its journey digitally, first appearing as a webcomic on creator Haruomi Tomotsuka's personal Twitter account in October 2021. Its popularity rapidly increased, leading to formal serialization commencing in March 2022 across Kadokawa's platforms, ComicWalker and Nico Nico Seiga.

The manga has already secured significant critical recognition. Notably, it was ranked among the top 20 titles in the coveted Male Readers category in the 2024 edition of the Kono Manga ga Sugoi! rankings. This achievement solidifies its status as a notable contemporary work.

Production Team and Promotional Efforts

Kadokawa has initiated the promotional campaign by launching an official website and unveiling a teaser visual, building anticipation for the 2026 debut. The animation production will be handled by Asahi Production.

The production team features experienced talent, including Masato Suzuki serving as Director and Kouichi Kikuta managing the character designs. The soundtrack, which is essential for establishing the series' distinctive mood, will be composed by Rei Ishizuka, with music production overseen by Lantis.

The global reach of the property continues to expand, evidenced by Yen Press licensing the manga for English publication. The English edition launched in December 2024, with the second volume successfully released in November 2025.

Furthermore, the franchise previously explored voice acting through a popular voice comic released on Kadokawa Anime's YouTube channel in early 2023. This preview featured established voice actresses Fairouz Ai, Aki Toyosaki, and Minako Kotobuki.
