Daihatsu Revives Hatsune Miku Car Collab with Fan-Designed 'Miku Canvas 2' for 10th Anniversary

Japanese automaker Daihatsu has officially unveiled a new themed vehicle, reigniting its celebrated partnership with the virtual superstar Hatsune Miku. This launch marks the first fresh entry in the popular collaboration series since 2021 and coincides with the 10th anniversary of the Hatsune Miku Collab Car project. This initiative, which began in 2014, has established itself as a unique intersection of Japanese pop culture and automotive design.

The new vehicle is dubbed the Canvas Hatsune Miku Edition, often referred to informally as the “Miku Canvas 2.” It utilizes the highly customizable Daihatsu Move Canvas kei car as its foundation. A particularly notable aspect of this edition is its deep connection to the fanbase: the design was selected via a public costume contest hosted on Crypton Future Media’s Piapro platform, rather than relying on in-house or commissioned artwork.

Fan-Selected Design and Exterior Features

The winning submission came from artist Pentagon, featuring a bright, cheerful picnic ensemble for Miku. This victorious aesthetic has been meticulously translated across the car’s entire interior and exterior. The exterior detailing skillfully captures the playful, summery atmosphere of Pentagon's artwork.

Key exterior features include a checkered stripe along the rear fender, which directly mirrors the pattern found on Miku’s skirt, and a bespoke “Miku Canvas 2” logo emblem adorning the rear. Furthermore, the vehicle boasts a special decal on the fuel cap showcasing all six beloved Piapro Characters, ensuring the color scheme and graphics harmonize perfectly with the winning design.

Immersive Interior Customization

Inside the cabin, the customization achieves an unprecedented level of immersion. All four seat covers are custom-designed to replicate Miku’s iconic white shirt and checkered skirt combination. This signature checkered pattern and Miku’s recognizable hair gradient color palette are integrated throughout the accessories, including the seatbelt pads and the interior paneling.

Even elements often overlooked in themed collaborations, such as the steering wheel and shift lever covers, receive unique, Miku-inspired designs, effectively transforming the interior into a vibrant homage to the virtual idol.

Exhibition and Commercial Release

Enthusiasts will have the opportunity to view the physical concept car up close at the upcoming Hatsune Miku: Magical Mirai 2025 events, which are scheduled to take place in Osaka and Tokyo. While the concept provides a comprehensive glimpse of the design, the final production accessory package is currently undergoing final calibration. Daihatsu projects a commercial release for the Canvas Hatsune Miku Edition in Winter 2025.
