Anticipation Mounts: 'You and I Are Polar Opposites' Anime Unveils Stellar New Cast Members

Anticipation is soaring for the anime adaptation of Kōcha Agasawa's beloved romantic comedy manga, You and I Are Polar Opposites. Lapin Track has revealed two significant additions to its already stellar voice cast for the series, which is set to captivate audiences with its January 2026 premiere. The anime delves into the charmingly awkward dynamic between high schoolers Suzuki and Tani, expertly voiced by Sayumi Suzushiro and Shōgo Sakata, respectively. These new cast members promise to inject even more depth and personality into the vibrant high school ensemble.
Miyuri Shimabukuro joins the cast as Azuma, a character whose mature demeanor belies her complete lack of romantic experience. Despite a seemingly jaded outlook, Azuma navigates the complexities of teenage relationships for the first time, offering a compelling blend of wisdom and innocence. Complementing this, Wataru Katō steps into the role of Taira, a cynical classmate wrestling with profound self-confidence issues and insecurities. Their introductions build upon earlier casting announcements, which include Yuna Taniguchi as the spirited Watanabe and Anji Iwata as the enigmatic Yamada, further enriching the tapestry of personalities within the series.

Under the skilled direction of Takakazu Nagatomo, with scripts penned by Teruko Utsumi, who also serves as animation producer, the anime is poised to deliver a perfect fusion of heartfelt romance and laugh-out-loud humor. Character designs are masterfully crafted by Mako Miyako, with Naho Kozono assisting as sub-character designer and sharing chief animation director duties alongside Sayuri Sakimoto. The atmospheric soundtrack, composed by tofubeats, will undoubtedly enhance the emotional resonance of each scene.
The original manga, a critical and commercial success, boasts over 1.45 million copies in circulation and garnered prestigious nominations at the Manga Taisho awards in both 2023 and 2024. Fans worldwide can look forward to streaming the series exclusively on Crunchyroll. This latest casting announcement not only expands the prodigious voice talent but underscores the anime's commitment to portraying a nuanced and engaging narrative through its richly developed supporting characters.
