After Seven Years, '22/7 – The Diary of Our Days' Anime Makes Triumphant, Emotional Return with New Episode

Fans of the beloved short anime series '22/7 – The Diary of Our Days' are celebrating a truly unexpected and profoundly moving return. The franchise has unveiled its ninth episode more than seven years after its last installment aired in November 2018. This latest chapter marks a significant moment, not only for the series but also for its dedicated fanbase and the real-world idol project it mirrors.
The new episode presents a poignant, no-dialogue narrative, intimately focused on the character Miu Takigawa. Its release holds particular emotional weight, as it coincides with the recent graduation of Miu's real-life voice actress, Nagomi Saijo, from the '22/7' idol group. The animation was first revealed during Saijo's heartfelt graduation concert, a gesture that beautifully intertwines the fictional world with the real-life transitions of its talented performers, offering a touching tribute to her contributions.
This highly anticipated return sees the reunion of key creative forces behind the series. Esteemed director Shin Wakabayashi, celebrated for his evocative work on 'Wonder Egg Priority,' resumes his role, bringing his signature artistic vision. Joining him is the renowned character designer Yukiko Horiguchi, whose iconic designs graced 'K-On!' and now lend their distinctive charm to '22/7.' Production powerhouse CloverWorks, known for its high-quality animation, is once again at the helm.

The episode benefits from the expertise of unit director Yusuke Kawakami, recognized for his contributions to critically acclaimed titles such as 'The Elusive Samurai' and 'Bocchi the Rock!', alongside returning animation producer Shota Umehara, whose impressive portfolio includes hits like 'My Dress-Up Darling' and 'Bocchi the Rock!'. This stellar team ensures the new installment maintains the high standards fans have come to expect.
Launched in 2017 as an ambitious idol project co-created by Sony Music and Aniplex, the '22/7' franchise has seen a dynamic evolution. Ten members have graduated over the years, with eight active members remaining after Saijo's departure. Beyond this short series, the universe of '22/7' also encompasses a successful 2020 TV anime and the captivating manga '22/7+α,' showcasing its versatile multimedia presence.
The arrival of the ninth episode not only reignites fervent interest in this unique fusion of idol culture and compelling slice-of-life storytelling but also respectfully honors the evolving journeys of its real-world counterparts, promising exciting new developments for this enduring and innovative franchise.
